Collection: Cleaning

Regularly cleaning your coffee machine is an essential part to achieving the perfect espresso. The maintenance of your coffee equipment will prolong their life and also provide consistent results when extracting espresso shots. Simply flushing water from the group head after every use and brushing the shower screen and seal goes a long way in making sure your machine stays clean. From time to time espresso clean powder is also necessary to wash the coffee grinds from the group head and shower screen. An important factor that usually gets over looked is the water you put in your coffee machine, a water filter should be fitted to avoid any scale building up in your machine boiler. The type of filter you use should be based on the water quality in your area, as each country and even region can really vary in water quality.

Following a standard cleaning and maintenance routine when using a coffee machine is quite easy and becomes habit very quickly.

Group Head
> Flush water from the group head before and after each espresso shot
> Use a group head brush to brush the shower screen and seal frequently throughout the day
> Backflush the group head with espresso machine cleaner (Daily for a café and weekly for home/domestic machines)

Steam Wand
> Purge steam wand before and after each use
> Ensure steam wand is properly wiped after each use to avoid scale build up

Grinder
> Grinder burrs should be brushed and cleaned frequently
> Grinder cleaner is a great option to remove coffee oils from the burrs

Boiler
> Water must be filtered to avoid scale build up
> Regular descaling is necessary, it is best to talk your coffee machine technician if you are not comfortable with descaling your machine
