Coffee Tampers

An important tool when preparing espresso is the Coffee Tamper. Ensuring the coffee grounds in the filter basket are tamped level and with adequate pressure will show in the quality in the espresso extraction.

Coffee Tampers are commonly chosen on personal preference however, be sure to choose one that is ergonomically designed to use repetitively. A flat base tamper will help achieve a level puck and a more even extraction.

The main coffee tamper types are a Hand Tamper, Palm Tamper, Calibrated or 0Spring-Loaded Tamper and Automatic Tamper.

Majority of commercial coffee machines require a 58mm coffee tamper however, it is always best to measure your portafilter basket to be sure prior to purchasing a coffee tamper.
